Vintage style is a key trend and you can bring this look into your home no matter what the age and style of your property is.

Tip 1

Tip 1

Fabrics should be traditionally floral in pastel colours, mix and match designs for a truly vintage look. There are lots of different designs to choose from. Some designs feature large floral patterns, some with smaller flower patterns. Stripes can also be used as a contrast to the floral prints. Use for curtains, blinds and cushions. Look for floral pvc prints to use for tablecloths in the kitchen.

Tip 2

In the bedroom you could use a patchwork quilt, you could try and find an original one, look for a modern one or have a go at making one yourself and create a new family heirloom. Or you could use floral bedlinen and mix with crisp white linen for a great look.

Look for pieces such as glassware, china and furniture in reclamation yards, antique fairs, car boot sales, charity and second hand shops. When putting together the scheme don't worry if all the pieces you have chosen do not come from the same era - concentrate on using pieces that you love. If you don't want to go scouring about for original pieces there are lots of shops around which specialise in this style of decor and produce new pieces that reflect the vintage style.

Tip 3

Furniture can be distressed, natural wood such as oak or pine or painted. Walls would traditionally have been painted white - there are many different shades of white so find one which suits your home. You could also use floral wallpaper, either all over or as a feature wall. Flooring is also best in natural products such as slate, stone and wood, add rugs for warmth.

The key thing to remember when putting a vintage scheme together is to try and make it look as though you haven't tried to put it together but that it has evolved naturally.
