Using seaside fabric in your home

You don't need to live by the coast to bring a touch of the seaside into your home. Using fabrics inspired by coastal themes you can feel as though you're on holiday all year round!

There are some great contemporary seaside fabrics which can be used all over your house. Below are some ideas for bringing a beach feel into your home.

Beach inspired bathroom

The bathroom is the ideal place to use seaside prints. Use your favourite design for blinds and then select some of the colours from the fabric for towels and other accessories such as soap dispensers. You could either pick out one colour or use several colours for a cheerful scheme.  You could choose practical tiles for the floors either in a bold sea blue or neutral sandy tone.  For the walls you could use a crisp, fresh white for tiles or paint.  Add a mirror with a drift wood frame to complete the look.

Colourful children's bedrooms and playrooms

Our latest range of colourful seaside fabrics featuring vibrant sailing boats, multi-coloured beach huts and bright, friendly puffins would be ideal in a child's room. Bleached wooden floors would be a practical solution and then add rugs for comfort and texture. Paint furniture in bright colours taken from the fabric and then decorate in pale sky blue tones.

Relaxing living rooms

Relaxing living rooms

A living room may not the first room that springs to mind when deciding on introducing a seaside theme to your home but coastal inspiration can be used effectively in a living room.

To create a relaxing room scheme use sandy colours. Striped fabrics work particularly well for sofas and chairs.  You could then add cushions in printed fabrics, perhaps a muted design featuring yachts or seagulls, you could also use these as a curtain fabric. Keep walls and floors in neutral tones and just add a few accessories reminiscent of beach holidays

Conservatories and summerhouses with a coastal feel

Conservatories and summerhouses with a coastal feel

These are the ideal places to use your summer fabric.  You can create a seaside feel without leaving your garden!  Mix and match the colourful designs and use for blinds, curtains and cushions. If you have any fabric leftover use for bunting.

You could look around second hand shops or car boot sales to see if you can find a traditional style deckchair that needs recovering. To add a contemporary twist you could also paint the wooden frame in a bright teal blue to add a pop of colour.

Accessorise with shells, pebbles and driftwood and add a basket of throws to use on chillier evenings.  Then all you have to do is relax in your deckchair imagining you are on a sun kissed beach!
