Bedroom Makeover - Cottage Renovation - Part 2

Bedroom makeover

The first room we tackled was the master bedroom.  This had been left in a 1970’s timewarp complete with psychedelic wallpaper, built in wardrobes and even a built in bed.

We soon pulled the old furniture out.  We also had to pull down the ceiling, this was a very old plaster and lathe one and is one of the dustiest jobs I have ever done!  We also exposed a lovely wooden beam.  We then put up some new plasterboard ready for the plasterer to come.   Once plastered the room looked much better and was ready to decorate.

Moodboard

This is my favourite stage of the process.  My starting point was the headboard which I had in our previous home and I still liked.  However, I felt that the bold colours I’d used with it in our previous home was too dark for our cottage.  I decided to use lighter tones for the rest of the scheme.  I wanted the fabric to have a pale duck egg background but also contained some red – Emi in duck egg fitted my brief perfectly.  I used a pastel blue for the walls and chose a neutral coloured carpet.

I made a matching cushion for the window seat and bed and also used cushions from our previous bedroom which are in the same colour palette.

I’ve added some red accessories such as the bedside lamps. We now have one room in the house which is comfortable and a perfect retreat!

Next on the list is the guest bedroom/study – details to follow when completed.
