How to Hang Gathered and Pencil Pleat Curtains

How to Hang Gathered and Pencil Pleat Curtains

If you’ve ordered made to measure curtains from us, your curtains will arrive pre-gathered with hooks in place. These can be adjusted if not to the desired gather or length with this type of heading.

Pencil pleat heading tape comes with pockets for the hooks so if you would like to adjust them simply flip the hook up and away and pull out. You can then insert the hooks in the desired pockets.

To adjust the gather do not cut the cord as it will need to be loosened if you have the curtains cleaned. Simply untie and either loosen or tighten to your desired gather effect and knot in place.

How to Hang Double and Triple Pinch Pleat Curtains

How to Hang Double and Triple Pinch Pleat Curtains

Our Made to measure curtains for this style of heading have been made using buckram. You should already have pin hooks inserted in each pleat plus one at each end. If you would like to alter the position of the hook to adjust the finished drop, simply get hold of the pink hook and slide firmly downward to remove. Re-insert by piercing the lining fabric and buckram with the sharp end of the pin hook and push up firmly into the desired position. Ensure the pin hook does not pierce through the front face of the curtain but does go through the buckram.

For an eyelet heading the outside edge of the curtain will face back towards the wall. Simply feed the fabric back and forth on your pole through the eyelet rings.

Please note if your curtains include a half width of fabric this always hangs on the outside edge of the window.

When hanging your curtains, especially when they are heavy, start by putting them over one shoulder to take the weight and start at the centre of your pole and track and work your way back.

How to Dress your Curtains

How to Dress your Curtains

When your curtains are first hung they should be dressed to encourage them to fall into even folds. To begin draw your curtains back and starting from the outside edge, work from the top downwards running your hands firmly down the length of each pleat to fold and manipulate until they fall into smooth pleats.

We recommend to tie your curtains by cutting long stripes of the plastic packaging your curtains have been delivered in and tie around the whole curtain so the folds stay in place but not be so tight it marks the fabric. Leave in position for 48hours and then untie.
