How to Make a Bean Bag

Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make a decorative door stop with two beautiful contrasting fabrics.

If you are wanting to add a handmade touch into your interior, then this simple to follow guide will show you how to make your very own bean bag which will be a great addition into any home. We have used the Movement Outdoor Sugar and the Salcombe Outdoor Coral, but you can choose whatever fabric you like for this make to suit your interior style and room.

3M of Lining Fabric 

Tape Measure 

22in Zipper 

Scissors 

Chalk 

Pins

Polystyrene Beads 

Step 1

Cut out two 45x35in pieces of your lining fabric, pin together all but one of the short edges and sew along the pinned edges. 

Step 2

Take the open short side, match up the two long steams and pin this together to hold in place, ready to sew. After, sew along the pinned edge, leaving a small gap in the middle and turn right sides out and fill the beanbag with polystyrene beads. Afterwards, pin the small gap and sew it shut.

Cut out two 45x35in pieces of each of the main fabrics and with the right sides facing, pin together the long edges. Then, sew along both the pinned long edges, leaving the ends open.

Lay the zipper face down and open on one side before pinning it in place. Afterwards, sew along the pinned edge to hold the zipper in place and then line the zipper up with the other side and pin in place.

Sew along the pinned edge to hold the zipper in place and then pin shut the open edges next to the zipper and sew along them.

With the right sides out, fold the fabric over slightly and press. Pin the fabric in place and then sew to top stich the zip.

With the right sides in, match the two long seams of the open side, pin in place and sew along the pinned side.

Turn the right sides and slide the filled inner inside to finish.

You now have a completed bean bag, designed for indoor and outdoor – ready to be placed anywhere around your home!
