How to Make a Halloween Fabric Basket

Get ready for trick or treating with this easy fabric make, the perfect basket to hold treats at Halloween!

For this make we have used three contrasting Halloween fabrics - the Trick or Treat Multi fabric, Ghostly Florals Multi fabric and Spooky Skulls Black fabric. Take a look at all our Halloween fabrics for lots more inspiration.

For this make you will need:

  • 2 x fabrics
  • Ruler
  • Iron
  • Sewing Machine
  • Scissors
  • Chalk
  • Pins
  • Cutting Mat
  • Needle and Thread
  • Rotary Cutter

Firstly, cut out 2 x outer pieces of fabric, these need to measure 18cm x 22cm.

Next, cut out 2 x pieces of fabric for the lining, these also need to measure 18cm x 22cm.

Now, cut out a 6cm x 27cm piece from another contrasting fabric, this is going to be for the handle.

Box the bottom corners by 5cm x 5cm at on both the main and lining pieces.

Next, take the lining piece sand mark a 6cm gap on the right hand side, this will be the opening for when you turn the basket the right side around.

Once you have marked the opening, take the lining and main fabric and place right sides together. Stitch along the long side and bottom side, leave the gap in the opening you have marked unsewn.

Once you have stitched the sides, you now need to pin and sew the boxed corners. Take these and align the edges and pin up both the bottoms of the lining and face fabric, stitch along these edges.

Fold the raw edges inwards of the fabric strap and press with an iron. Stitch along the long edge to keep secure.

Take the face fabric and attach the strap to the inside, lining up the edges and pin in place.

Once secured with pins, take the lining fabric and turn right side around, now pin to the face fabric.

Turn the basket right side out and place the right sides together and line up all the seams. Replace the pin that’s holding strap in place and now pin through all three layers.

Once the seams are secured, pin the top edges of the bag, ready for stitching. Now stitch along this top pinned edge.

Find the opening which was left unsewn and pull the basket the right way around.  Once the basket is the right way around, stitch the gap closed with a hand slip stitch.
