Do you have an old deckchair that needs a new lease of life? This easy how to guide will show you to how to give your furniture a new lease of life at an affordable price.

What you'll need:

  • Deckchair frame
  • Outdoor fabric
  • Fabric Scissors
  • Pins
  • Sewing Machine
  • Tape Measure

Top tip: Two metres of our deckchair fabric will recover three standard size deckchairs

Step 1

Step 1

To start, measure the length and width of your deckchair frame using a tape measure. Add 3cms to the measured width to allow for your seam allowance.

Next, using your fabric scissors, cut fabric to the size required. If you're using a patterened fabric, consider your pattern placement and how you'd like the design to look when finished on your deckchair.

Step 2

Step 2

Next, you will create the side seams. Fold both long sides of your fabric in by 1.5cm, press and pin down the length of your fabric.

Using your sewing machine, sew down the seam on both sides removing the pins as you go.

Top tip: We'd recommend you use a 100 or 110 size needle in your machine for outdoor fabrics

Step 3

Step 3

Measure the channels your wooden dowels will slide into. To do this, you will need to measure on your deckchair frame from the top bar to the inside bar, on both sides. On a standard deckchair frame this will be approximatley 10cm.

Then fold the edge of your fabric to this measurement, and pin 2.5cm from the fold to allow enough room for the wooden dowels to slide through. Repeat on otherside and sew to create your rod pockets.

Please note: Depending on the size of your dowel, you may need to alter the measurement of your rod pocket

Step 4

Step 4

Your deckchair sling is now ready to be on your frame. With your frame at the ready, thread the channels into your deckchair frame. Insert your wooden dowels into the top and bottom channels and your deckchair is complete.

Relax and Enjoy!
