Winter Brights

Tips for brightening up your home with colour

Dreary Days

Dreary Days

Let’s be honest, as we come into November and winter takes hold, the next few months in the UK are going to be pretty miserable weather wise. So now is the perfect time to inject some colour into your home to make sure you don’t feel as grey as the sky!

Multi-coloured

One of our best selling fabrics is the beautiful Hedgerow fabric, with its colourful watercolour flowers printed on a linen mix cloth. One of the things I love most about this fabric is the fact that it is colourful and yet not over powering like some other fabrics around at the moment. There are so many varying shades of colour in this design, which will work with almost any colour scheme. A great design tip is to pick out a colour within the pattern and accessorise with items in that colour. If you’re going for a bolder look, then try a modern print with a funky design in multi-colours.

Colour Matching

Colour Matching

One design fail which so easily happens is when you try and match everything in the room. A lot of high street stores now offer ‘colour match’ ranges where you can buy almost everything for your interiors in exactly the same colour. But what are you left with? A very boring scheme that will date very quickly! When only choosing one colour in a scheme, you’ll also find that you yourself get bored with it and will end up changing it sooner, thus wasting money.

Yellow

It might not be an obvious choice for this time of year, but yellow works brilliantly with greys and blacks for a contrast look. There are some really beautiful yellow fabrics available for every style of home that can be a great choice for those who don’t want to go too bold. Try a soft, muted yellow that will also add warmth to the grey days ahead.

Pattern

Pattern

Try not to stick to only one pattern, for example only stripes or only florals. Combine different patterns to get a professional look. For example traditional florals look great with checked fabrics or tartans for a stylish country look, or use stripes with contemporary floral prints.

Contemporary Design

If you are trying to create a contemporary look, especially if you own a newer home and are trying to put your own style into it, then winter brights are what you need! Imagine sofas adorned with bold cushions, a modern fireplace and eyelet headed curtains in large prints at the window.
