Pantone colour of the year - Greenery

For 2017 Pantone have announced that their colour of the year is called Greenery.

This refreshing and revitalising shade is a great colour to use as a curtain fabric in your home this Spring.

What is 'Greenery'?

What is 'Greenery'?

It has a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade which reflects the beginning of Spring perfectly when everything in nature is starting to emerge and renew itself after the long, dark days of Winter.

Greenery is nature’s neutral and if you look around the countryside and your garden you will see that every colour goes with it so you can use this as inspiration when planning your next decorating scheme.

Bring the outside in

Bring the outside in

Greenery is the ideal base colour to use when designing a scheme to bring the outside in. Use with bold floral curtain fabric for a colourful and invigorating scheme.  Ideal for use in a garden room or sitting room where you could use the floral fabric for your curtains and use greenery as an upholstery fabric for a feature chair.

Calm it down

Calm it down

As this is a bright colour you may feel that you need to calm it down a bit.  You could use a paler shade of green or perhaps a pale lilac or pink to tone it down and then use the green as an accent colour, perhaps for cushions or a rug. This will create a relaxing and restful scheme.

Use with colours from the forest

Woodland colours are also a key trend and these can be used very effectively with greenery.  Use earthy colours such as muddy browns and moody greens to add an atmospheric feel to your room.  So that the room doesn't feel too dark paint the walls in a pale taupe and then use the other colours as a curtain fabric and for cushions and as an upholstery fabric.  Use different textures for the cushions such as wool fabric, velvet fabric and cotton.  Accessories should be natural such as woollen throws in a wicker basket or logs by the side of a fireplace.

Bright and cheerful

If bold and bright is your thing then use with colours such as daffodil yellow, zesty orange or fuchsia pink.  You could either just choose one other colour as a contrast or mix them all together for a riot of colour.  This is not a relaxing colour scheme so not great to use in a bedroom but would be ideal for a kitchen or a child's playroom.  Children love bright, bold colours so this mix would be perfect for them. You could look for a bright stripey curtain fabric, which contains all these colours.  In a kitchen use just two colours for example greenery with daffodil yellow.  Sunny, daffodil yellow is also a key colour for this Spring and if you mix and match these colours for your accessories it will give you an instant update in your kitchen which will also make you feel cheerful!

Whatever your taste by bringing ‘greenery’ into your home you will be adding a sense of vitality and a feeling of renewal ideal for the Spring season.
